Concerto for Harp, Flute and String Band

The piece, also known as Concerto per arpa, flauto e archi, was commissioned by harpist Ariadna Tugaj from Rimsky Conservatory in Petrozavodsk. The three movement piece follows the formal order of a solo concert with orchestra. The applied form are frugal. Although the foreground parts belong to harp and flute, the role of orchestra is comparable.

Sea-froth Cut-out (III)

This is another version of the small cantata Sea-froth Cut-outs (I) for three voice children’s choir and brass quintet in transcription for a three voice children’s choir, string band and piano. This composition was written for school bands – the choir and the string band lead by Zbigniew Soja in PPSM No. 1 (State Music School No. 1) in Warsaw. The instrumental composition of the ensemble in this version was a result of the performing abilities of the school bands.

I String Quartet

This is a three movement piece. The short and slow introduction in the first movement blends into sonata allegro – Allegro ben moderato – with the energetic, even impulsive first theme and lyrical second theme. Symphonia de Nativitate

Symphonia de Nativitate by Polish anonymous from 1759 is a reconstruction for a string band. The composition was reconstructed at the request of Tadeusz Ochlewski, Director of PWM and Head of the band Con moto ma cantabile. Based on the remains of orchestra scores and autographs from the middle of XVIII century, the composer created entirely new composition, but in the style and spirit of the time.

Variations for string quartet

Also known as A Theme with Variations for String Quartet. The piece consists of 12 variations – Andante / Poco vivo / Moderato / Allegretto con spirito / Allegro marciale / Adagio molto / Allegro scherzando / Lento / Allegro molto / Con moto / Grave lugubre / Presto con fuoco / Allegro non troppo – and a developed double fugue.
A calm and slow theme of Andante is built of sixteen bars. First variations are strongly related to the theme, the later ones less so. Each of the variations is unique in character and a separate entity but at the same time links with the following variation. There are numerous forms here: two and three-piece songs, marches, preludes, scherzo, toccatino and double fugue.
